Unit was awful

My unit was very very noisy and printed with streaks down the side. I returned it as defective.

I was surprised...this is actually a pretty large printer and is quite heavy. That is because it is several years old in design. Newer HP printers weight half as much and are quite a bit smaller. The advertised 'smallest' 'quietest' 'lightest' for this printer is no longer valid at all.


Beware of buying by Marketplace, which is what I did. My unit was new, but to return this unit cost me nearly $30.00, plus the $15 to ship it to me, is a total of $45.00 ...and that I will not be able to recover. Thus this experiment in printer buying cost me nearly half of the cost of the item itself.

I note that there are many hundreds of refurb units of this, a signal that there must be considerable quality control issues.

Great little printer. Small and slick looking. Quick prints. As a home user, couldn't be better... Just add infrared or wireless would ya?!

If Only I could Have Gotten It to Work...All the Time

I spent two days attempting to get this printer to work with my laptop. Even a late evening telephone session with a (surly) Samsung technician yielded no success. It might have helped if the installation instructions came in English (some of the pictures were labeled in English but the step-by-step directions were printed in every language but English). I suspect that I bought a "gray market" version, but considering that it came from Office Max that would be quite surprising.

I was able to get it work -- briefly and/or occasionally -- but a subsequent re-boot of my computer consistently rendered it -- and several of my installed software programs -- absolutely unuseable. This is the first piece of hardware I've ever installed on my laptop which has exhibited this stubbornness, or affected my other programs in this way. Even my older Samsung ML-2250 laser installs on my laptop and works flawlessly (a really wonderful printer, by the way, that has served me faithfully in a law office setting since 2004).

When I was able to get the printer to work (usually for no more than a few minutes), it was sloooooww! Also, you cannot print envelopes on this printer -- labels only, and then only on 8 1/2 by 11 size sheets of labels.

I had really hoped this printer would work for me. It is a convenient size, and quite handsome in its black case. Not to be...alas!

great quality and easy to set up

If you're looking for a laser monochrome printer with wi fi, I don't see how you could do much better than this one. It was relatively (must follow instructions carefully and plug it it to modem to set up wifi) easy to set up and works brilliantly.

Good Printer

I chose this printer because I had an older Samsung Laser Printer that worked flawlessly, but I needed a new smaller printer that I could take on the road with me. The ML-1630 fit what I needed for a travel printer. The only negative I had was finding some sort of case for the printer. I ended up having to purchase a wheeled suitcase, since all laptop bags or other bags were too small.
